The Railroad Museum of South Florida is located within scenic Lakes Regional Park in Fort Myers and offers a fascinating excursion for both children and adults. Inside a beautifully restored depot building, visitors can explore the region’s railroading past through interactive exhibits and authentic artifacts.
Railroads have played a major role in the development of Southwest Florida and the entire state. At the RRMSF (as it’s affectionately known), kids and adults can enjoy miniature train rides and learn about locomotives. Inside the museum, you’ll find real railway cars, vintage railroad memorabilia, historic documents, posters, and objects from the golden age of rail travel. The Railroad Museum of South Florida occupies a 3,200-square-foot space at the park’s north end, showcasing extensive exhibits, books, and scale model railroads. Open rain or shine!
Directly across from the museum is the Lakes Park & Gulf Railroad—a 1:8 scale miniature railway that winds through otherwise unreachable parts of Lakes Park. The scenic ride passes model villages, bridges, tunnels, forests, and lakes. Note: rides may be suspended during inclement weather, so please check park conditions in advance.
