Gasparilla Island State Park Boca Grande

Boca Grande is situated at the mouth of Charlotte Harbor, and from May to mid-July, the Boca Grande Pass becomes one of the world’s premier fishing spots. Boats gather so closely together that you could jump from one to the next — all in pursuit of the legendary "silver king," the tarpon. As seasoned fishermen say: if you’ve never battled a fish as big as yourself, you haven’t truly fished. In late spring and early summer, tarpon fill the passes before moving on to the waters of Pine Island Sound.

A true icon of the island is the wooden lighthouse built in 1890, located within the Gasparilla Island State Recreation Area. It opens to the public on the last Saturday of every month. The harbor town on Gasparilla Island exudes the charm of the early 20th century and reflects the affluence of today's residents. The DuPont family played a key role in developing Boca Grande in the late 19th century. Today, visitors can explore cozy restaurants, quaint shops, and beautiful beaches in this serene coastal community.
